Red, white, and where have I been?

I have been here, there, and everywhere.  This post is beginning to sound like a Dr. Seuss story, and honestly, life has been much like a silly Dr. Seuss story as of late.  Summer used to be the time to sew, to blog, to organize, to cook, but not any more.  Summers are now full of fundraising, planning, cheer practice, softball, teaching, and more cheer practice.  I have been completely overwhelmed.  On top of all the things we do every day, there has been stresses.  Friends have needed help.  I have been struggling to sleep but it is not the kind of not sleeping that is productive but the kind that keeps me awake, laying there, staring into the darkness.

Many photos sleep in files waiting to blog and, eventually, I will get to those because there has been some bit of fun in all my busyness.  Lost in all of this great fun has been a commitment I have made to share a quilt block with you, Mdm. Samm's readers and Jane's Fabrics and Quilts' readers.  I missed my deadline for the RWB blog hop, because I had written the deadline in my organizer as the 15th, but I was assigned the 5th.  This is the sign of being too busy indeed.  My block is unfinished, but posted.  It is red.  It is white.  But, the blue embroidery planned will have to wait for now.  There are four red and white stars in all.

I hope you will take the time to visit all the amazing talented quilters on this blog hop.  Here is a complete list of participants.  I will see you there as I certainly need to catch up.

  2. You have a lovely little block! I really understand...life just gets so busy. Take a deep breath and take one step at a time. There will come a time when life gets quieter, but for now, embrace your busyness! And yes, your busyness also sounds like fun! Our kids are grown now, but for us it was hockey and highland dancing that kept us running. We were busy, but we had a lot of fun along the way!

  5. Love Gingham & your star so there is plenty of time to embroider - just take ten minutes for yourself.

  9. I feel your pain, as most people also do. Our children keep us hopping and it is good...for them and us.. It helps them build communication skills and learn how to adapt around others, learn how to make friends, and function in society...For us it keeps us young..even though we think we are growing older by the minute every time we sit on a hard bleacher to watch a ballgame. lol

Charity work is an awesome thing to partake in. It keeps us humble. And always be there for your friends because you never know when you will need them.

Your block is still fantastic whether the blue is missing or not. We can all close our eyes and imagine the blue embroidery. And just think how many blocks your one block will turn in to as we all imagine our own embroidery design. :)

  11. In my Special Education class room, I have a motto hanging by my desk. It reads, "Blessed Are the Flexible for They Shall Not Be Bent Out of Shape." We are all friends here and are all busy with life...I hope you are soon able to sleep. Thank you for giving of yourself and caring for others.

  14. This is a great star and you have four so don't be too hard on yourself. We have all been there. I remember the school year and summer after our kids graduated, it was like, now what do we do? We were so busy with our kid's activities. Now I watch my grandson whenever I can. It is very important to get your sleep though. If your body doesn't get the chance to rest and repair it's self, it can be a vicious circle. (been there, done that. hehe) Take care and thanks for sharing your block with us.

  19. OK...time to slow down and smell the roses...Sadly, I USED to be where you are and dreamed of a day I could slow down. I retired from a 30 yr. teaching career 3 yrs. ago and have now reached Nirvana. Yes, I actually get to do what I want to do with time to spare. I pinch myself every morning to see if its real or I'm dreaming. Please take time to finish your poor little block and give her some love...we will all cheer Hip Hip Hooray!!
